Useful and instructive ways to improve your word memorization process
There are plenty of new words that need to be learned, but they are hard to remember. Train new words easily and quickly and put them into practice!
Our brain perceives what we read and converts it to images, ideas, and feelings, and then forms a connection between new information and what we have already known. This is how a memorization process works - where new is combined with the old one.
Imagine a tree. The truth is, it's easier to see a large spreading tree with many branches and leaves than a small tree with multiple branches? The same truth is used for the brain. When you connect a new word or concept with data you already know, the brain will find and remember those data much easier at the right time.
How make it possible? Very simple. Draw a network of concepts. Take exactly what you want to remember (a word, an idea, a proposal), and write it in the center of the paper. Then draw a line from it in all directions, like a spider's web.
At the end of each line, write any word or draw a picture that comes to your mind when you think about the phrase written in the center. No matter what will be the association, simply write down everything that you can imagine. It will take only a few minutes, and then all the words or concepts will be linked in your brain.
In order to proceed it superiorly, try to repeat a particular word regularly to make this association even better linked with others. The more often you will do it, the more connections will be formed, the better your brain will "see" the word you want to remember.
Try to memorize phrases (phrases)
Remembering the word is essential, but it is not just a set of concepts, is a special tool that people use to communicate and express their thoughts. Find examples of how a particular word is used in the text.
Record not only the word but also neighboring sentences. For example, if you need to remember the word «selfish» , you can write: «the selfish and angry person.»
It will help you remember that «selfish» - is an adjective, used to describe people. Then try to make three complete proposals in order to train the word usage.
Memorize similarities and opposites
Memorize pairs of words with opposite meanings (antonyms) and words with similar meanings (synonyms). For example, remember pairs of grumpy / cheerful and grumpy / irritable at the same time. We will recognize differences and similarities, so how the brain creates a connection between them.
Students usually complain about the enormous amount of new words for remembering. There is one time-consuming but a useful technique that can be used for this purpose. Compose any, even the absurd story in which all the unknown words will be involved. Imagine it in details. Our brain prefers to remember stories than whole words, especially when we recreate them in your mind as a chain of associations. Feel free to combine words in funny and creative ways. Make a little effort and you will be surprised!
